ΑFRODITE OF MILOS
In spring time, on 8th April 1820 in the area of the ancient city a farmer , called George Kentrotas while digging in his field discovers an opening of stones. Inside that he finds a part of Afrodite and some others statues. In random at the same time and place is the French militare Voultie who sees the statue, admires it and along with his escort persuades the farmer to find the other part of it. Voutie understanding the worth that it has, draws it and mails to the ambassador of France in Istanbul. At the same time he sends notice to the Council of Milos to negotiate for the statue. The statue is seen by French Ntimon D’ Ourvil who thrilled communicates with the embassy in Istanbul and so the ambassador sends the third secretary of the embassy Marcellis to make the buy out, under difficult circumstances because it was already sold to people of the Turkish fleet. Finally under strict negotiations the statue falls in the hands of French and is carried to the museum of Louvre, where it remains until today, to attract a large number of visitors yearly. In the Archaeological museum of Milos you may find a copy.
